What is Ginkgo Biloba?
Ginkgo Biloba is an ancient tree that's native to China. It's referred to as a 'living fossil' because it first appeared in the Middle Jurassic Period over 170 million years ago, when the supercontinent Pangaea was beginning to break apart. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for nearly 1000 years, and today nutritionists are interested in it for its effects on cognitive health.
Ginkgo contains naturally occurring compounds such as flavonoids and terpenoids, and the flavonoids have antioxidant activity.
What does the research say about Ginkgo Biloba?
Ginkgo Biloba has been studied for its effects on cognitive function, including memory with age, thinking, reasoning and focus. Researchers have also looked at its effect on blood flow to the brain, through the opening of blood vessels and how 'sticky' the blood is.

Why it's in Brain Fuel®
Ginkgo Biloba Extract has been used for centuries to improve cognitive function and memory.1 The extract contains flavonoids and terpenoids, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.1 Ginkgo Biloba Extract has been shown to improve cognitive function in individuals with mild cognitive impairment, possibly by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in the brain.2 Additionally, the extract may improve blood flow to the brain, leading to enhanced cognitive function.1 Several clinical trials have investigated the effects of Ginkgo Biloba on brain health and cognition. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found that Ginkgo Biloba improved cognitive function in patients with dementia of Alzheimer’s type.3 Another study found that Ginkgo Biloba enhanced cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment.4
Why it's in Women's ProMulti
Ginkgo Biloba is well-known for its cognitive and circulatory benefits.
Enhanced blood flow: Ginkgo Biloba improves blood circulation by increasing the availability of nitric oxide (NO), dilating blood vessels and reducing blood viscosity. This is beneficial for the brain as it enhances cognitive function and memory.5
Antioxidant and anti-Inflammatory effects: Ginkgo contains flavonoids and terpenoids, which have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Neuroprotection: Ginkgo Biloba promotes neuronal health and protects against age-related cognitive decline. It improves memory and cognitive processing by enhancing neurotransmitter activity and neuroplasticity.
