What is Beetroot?
Beetroot provides a range of nutrients, including B vitamins, Vitamin C, minerals (including magnesium, manganese, potassium and sodium) and some protein, and it contains dietary fibre. It also naturally contains betalains (betanin) and plant nitrates.
What does the research say about Beetroot?
Betanin is a compound known for its antioxidant activity. Nitrates help to increase the levels of nitric oxide (NO) in the body, which has multiple functions, including roles in blood flow and muscle contraction. Nitrates have been studied for their effects on blood pressure, as well as on blood lipids and glucose. Nitrate-rich beetroot has also been studied in relation to athletic performance and recovery in some types of exercise.
Beetroot also contains plant compounds such as coumarins, carotenoids and flavonoids, which all have antioxidant properties. It's a good example of why a varied diet rich in plants and vegetables is so widely recommended.
Why it's in Men's ProMulti
Beetroot is rich in nitrates, which the body converts into nitric oxide, a molecule that plays a critical role in vasodilation, improving blood flow and reducing blood pressure. This makes beetroot an excellent supplement for cardiovascular health, particularly for men who may be at an increased risk of hypertension and heart disease. Beetroot has also been shown to improve exercise performance, particularly endurance, by enhancing oxygen utilisation and reducing the oxygen cost of exercise.1 Additionally, Beetroot contains betalains, powerful antioxidants that support liver detoxification and reduce inflammation, making it a beneficial addition to a men’s multi-vitamin for overall health and performance.2
Why it's in Fibre Complex
Contains both soluble and insoluble fibre, along with betalains. Enhances nitric oxide production.
Liver function: Supports liver health and detoxification pathways by promoting bile flow and providing antioxidants that reduce hepatic oxidative stress.3
